Soil

Silty clay loam from river deposit soils throughout most of the borough. Organic matter is generally adequate on established lawns, but topsoil depth over clay subsoil is often shallower than it appears. Wet-season drainage can be slow in the low-lying sections.

Turf

Tall fescue is standard on most maintained residential lots. Georgetown's small borough character means some properties have mixed grass stands that have evolved over decades without systematic renovation. Shade from riverside trees creates thin turf areas on many properties.

Climate

Ohio River proximity moderates winter temperatures. First frost mid-October; green-up in early April. Summer heat and river humidity create fungal-favorable conditions in dense turf sections, especially near the waterfront.
