Turf

Turf grass is sparse in Manchester's dense urban environment. Where lawn exists on narrow lots between rowhouses, fescue is the practical choice for tolerance of shade and urban stress. Many properties have abandoned turf in favor of hardscape or neglect.

Climate

Urban North Side climate. Ohio River proximity moderates temperature extremes. First frost late October; last frost mid-April. Urban heat island effect is moderate. The neighborhood's sparse tree canopy reduces cooling compared to more established neighborhoods.
